Day 9: Saint Joseph as patron of the universal Church
The ninth and final day of the novena, near the close of Christmas, turns to Saint Joseph as patron of the universal Catholic Church.
Joseph as paternal protector
Pope Pius IX declared Saint Joseph the Patron of the Universal Church on December 8, 1870, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. As Joseph protected the earthly Holy Family, he now protects the heavenly family of the Catholic Church.
Prayer
Saint Joseph, faithful spouse of Mary, foster father of Jesus, patron of the universal Catholic Church, watch over our family. Be to us what you were to the Holy Family: provider, protector, and silent witness to the Lord. Amen.
Conclude with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be. The novena is now complete.
