Day 5: Martyrdom

Day 5 attends to Cecilia's martyrdom by attempted suffocation and beheading.

Death for the faith

Cecilia was arrested for assisting the Catholic prisoners of the Roman persecutions. She was sentenced to die in the steam of her own bath and survived; she was then beheaded by a young executioner who failed to sever the head completely. She lived three days, instructing the Catholic women who attended her.

Prayer

Saint Cecilia, give us your courage in the face of opposition. Help us to witness to the Catholic faith whatever the cost. Amen.
