Pope Saint Pius X, in his motu proprio of November 22, 1903 (Cecilia's feast), restored Gregorian chant as the proper music of the Catholic Latin Rite. Catholic sacred music is to be holy, beautiful, and universal, drawing the worshiper to God.

Saint Cecilia, may sacred music in our parishes lift our hearts to God. Where music has become casual or worldly, restore Catholic dignity. Amen.
