The Saint Michael the Archangel Novena
Day 3: The choir of the Thrones
The third day of the Saint Michael Novena petitions through the choir of the Thrones and asks for the grace of humility before God.
The Thrones
The Thrones are the third choir of angels. They are named in Saint Paul's enumeration of the heavenly powers: "thrones or dominions or principalities or powers, all things have been created through him and for him" (Colossians 1:16). They appear in Daniel's vision as the wheeled chariot-thrones that bear the divine presence (Daniel 7:9).
The Thrones are characterized in Catholic angelology by the steadfast bearing of the divine will. Their name expresses their function: they are the seat of God's judgment, the executors of God's just order in creation.
The grace of Day 3
Today we ask through the intercession of Saint Michael and the Thrones for the grace of humility before God: that we may bend our wills to His, that we may receive His judgments with peace, and that we may bear our duties in submission to His providence.
Prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel, by your intercession and that of the choir of the Thrones, obtain for us the grace of true humility. Help us to submit our wills to God's will. Help us to receive His judgments and His providence with the steadfastness of the Thrones who bear His glory.
O Lord God, conform our hearts to Your justice and Your mercy. Amen.
Conclude with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
